I have a confession to make. While I live and share my life with a super awesome bartender, I do not actually know how to really make cocktails. In fact, I only know how to make one. We have a photo friend staying with us right now and he and I were hanging out the other night. I asked him what he wanted to drink. He replied, “A gin martini”, to which I said, “I don’t know how to make that so you will have to”. So he did and it was delicious.
I only know how to make one cocktail and it’s a Negroni. It’s my go-to cocktail because it’s delicious and I just love that vibrant red colour. Negronis are super easy to make because you don’t need mix, which means it’s easy to have all ingredients on-hand to make this lovely anytime. Plus, the spirits are mixed in equal parts – hello simple!
1 ounce Campari
1 ounce sweet Vermouth
1 ounce Gin
Stir the above in a glass with ice. Use a vegetable peeler to peel about a 2-inch section of orange peel. Make sure that there isn’t too much pith on the backside (it’ll get bitter if there is). Squeeze oil from peel over glass and then drop it into glass. Boom, you made yourself a Negroni! (Bonus, follow the above method in higher quantities to make up a pitcher of Negronis for your next house party!)
