Essential oils are a part of my daily life. They help set the tone. They change the mood. They flavour my drinks. They simply make me feel good. Below are some of my favourites that are currently in rotation at our house.
Cinnamon Bark. I have been obsessed with this essential oil for the past while. Cinnamon comes from a tropical evergreen tree that has soft bark that usually grows in Sri Lanka and South India.I have been putting a drop in my glass of water in the afternoons and it makes it such a nice treat on these cold winter days. A small amount goes a long way with this oil. My husband Josh has even made cocktails that included this oil.
Lavender. Lavender is such a classic essential oil to have. I think that it was the first that I ever bought for myself. It has so many uses but the most common is to aid with sleep. I love putting it in the diffuser in our bedroom at night to ensure a good and deep sleep. Lavender is also great to use topically when feeling anxious. It’s calming and soothing. Lavender has been around since Ancient times when Egyptians and Romans used it for everything from mummification to bathing to cooking and as a perfume.
Lemon. I use lemon oil almost daily. In the mornings, I put a couple of drops in a glass of water for a little kick. On days when I feel that my office needs some freshening up, I put a few drops of lemon, along with peppermint oil in my diffuser. Lemon oil is a powerful cleansing agent that cleans the air and can also be used as a cleaner throughout your house. Plus, it just makes you feel good.
Doterra Balance. The Balance essential oil blend is my current go to oil for my office diffuser. It is a blend of Spruce Needle/Leaf, Ho Wood, Frankincense Resin, Blue Tansy Flower, and Blue Chamomile Flower oils. It’s woody and warm. Balance promotes tranquility and relaxation. Spruce, one of the oils in Balance, was used by Native Americans for health and spiritual reasons and is still used today to bring harmony to the mind and body. Ho Wood, Blue Tansy, and Blue Chamomile can ease anxious feelings, while Frankincense provides a grounding, balancing effect on emotions.
Doterra On Guard. The On Guard essential oil blend is a lifesaver, I swear. The second either of us feel a cold or sickness coming on, we immediately reach for it. This was the first essential oil that my husband used that made him realise that there may actually be something to this “essential oil” thing. On Guard is a spicy mix of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark/Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. You can mix a few drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil and rub it on your soles when feeling ill or mix a drop in a shot of water and ingest it.
